Samuel Kay introduced no filters aquaponics. The system has no 3-stage filtering device of filter, degassing, and clarifier units.
Now, it is called “NF-Aquapoincs”.
As you already knew about aquaponics, with which we can grow crops with the fish water of natural fertilizers to have been formed after being processed with the nitrifying bacteria in the water. Fertilizers and various chemicals including pesticides shall not be allowed to apply in the line of aquaponics as those can kill the fish rearing in the fish tank.
In 2003 Dr. James Rakocy developed the first commercial aquaponics in the world, and its operation manual has been distributed to colleges, Institutes of Agricultural Research, and concerned institutions over the world. Dr. Rakocy’s UVI Aquaponics has got the 3 stage filtering units. And most aquaponics farms have reared the fish and grown the crops with filtered fish water.
Fortunately, Samuel Kay learned NF-Aquaponics in the U.S.A. in 2012. Later he could find theoretical evidence of how aquaponics can be
operated to grow crops with no filters. And could get the patent titled “No Filter Aquaponics” in Korea.
In 2014 SamKay moved to Korea from the US and started to grow various kinds of leafy lettuce in Korea, and could develop how to make the
basic core of Aquaponics for the most eco-friendly nature farming system. It is an Aquaponics Stabilized Water (ASW). It usually takes
4-6 months until the water is stabilized. Of course, the plant/crops can grow properly once Nitrate 20 PPM is formed in the water
Until the water become stabilized the crops can not grow well, and the water can be anytime infected by unwanted microbes.
And then the water becomes dirty and an uneasy odor comes out., and then the fish is dead. In the long run,
the Aquaponic system failed. So aquaponics water shall be stabilized in the aquaponics system.
Aquaponics Stabilized Water can be made subject to the below conditions:
1. Balanced Biodiversity shall be done when antagonism is formed between microorganisms in the water
2. Predominance of nitrifying bacteria shall be established in the water
3. Appropriate nitrate amount shall be formed in the water
4. Appropriate pH and Ammonia ppm shall be maintained in the water.
Once the water becomes stabilized, then it keeps its properties for a long time.
And it cannot be broken down with ease. Therefore, ASW is the very important key core to the successful operation of aquaponics.
The benefits of ASW – Aquaponics Stabilized Water out of aquaponics system.
1. Higher productivity: 5-10 folds more over soil farming with fertilizers
2. Higher quality leafy crops (lettuce)
- freshness keeps longer – at least 4 weeks in a cool sec. of the refrigerator
- not rotten and become dried up
- keep inherent flavor and taste
- crispy texture
3. Low Potassium lettuce for chronic kidney disease patients and chronic liver
disease patients.
Furthermore, We can do soil farming with ASWater.
The incredible results we can get by growing crops on gravel, sandy soil with ASW only.
Nature soil farming comes true with ASW + Sandy/Gravel soil.
Phase-1: Make the ASW from the aquaponics line. It takes at least 4 - 6 months under proper temperature
Phase-2: farming root fruits: potato, garlic, onion, etc
and vegetable-fruits: tomato, cucumber, etc
Phase-3: fruit Tree: Banana, mango, Papaya, etc.
Phase-4: Flowers: saffron, etc.
The benefits: weekly apply 1-2 times ASW in the soil with a dripping water pipe
1. min. 2 folds more production over soil farming with fertilizers
2. higher brix of fruit
3. Freshness keeps longer
4. not rotten, just dried and can be stored for a longer period
Many people can doubt the below 2 points and think the alternative to ASWater
1. Deficiency of ASW from aquaponics line, however,
Do not worry. ASW property is very strong and its stabilization can be restored within 3 days
after refilling the fresh water in the line as much as ASW is used for soil farming.
2. the possibility to use aquaculture water instead of ASW. However, it is very
difficult to stabilize aquaculture water close to ASW. The symbiotic process between
fish and plants is the proven way to make ASW at the moment.
Now, no need larger aquaponics farm. For example, 1000m2 Greenhouse:
330 m2 - Aquaponics line : fish/fish tanks/grow beds for growing lettuce/leafy crops-
lettuce production 500-1000kg per month and 50-60 tons of ASWater in the
aquaponics line 4-6 months later.
670 m2 - made a raised box (gravel+sandy soi)l for soil farming - various fruits production.
Let’s work to implement ASW soil farming in the Middle East !!!!
